The Wooden shield is the weakest shield in ProjectRS06. It is received from Vannaka the combat instructor while on Tutorial Island. Being made of wood, it is even weaker than bronze metal shields. Because it provides such small defence bonuses, it is advised to find an alternative shield as quickly as possible.

Despite this problem of being terribly weak, the wooden shield does have a niche for being one of the few shields that do not feature a penalty to Magic attack accuracy. This means it can be used for early magic training without having to worry too much about being hit by fairly low leveled NPCs such as goblins. Despite this niche, however, it is usually better to simply far-cast monsters from behind an obstacle so it cannot reach you (such as behind a rock or fence).
